Diagnostic Catheterization Lab

What is Diagnostic Catheterization?
Diagnostic catheterization is a procedure to examine how well your heart is working. It's used to diagnose and treat heart conditions, such as coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, and congenital heart defects. It allows interventional cardiologists to test your heart muscle and the arteries that keep it supplied with blood. Cardiac catheterizations are usually very safe and takes place inside a catheterization laboratory, or cath lab.
Diagnosing Heart Problems
Cath can help diagnose and evaluate the severity of heart problems, such as congenital heart disease, genetic heart disease, and pulmonary hypertension. It can also help determine how the heart and blood vessels are formed and connected, and check the pressure and oxygen levels in the heart and blood vessels.
Checking After Surgery
Cath can be used to check for problems after surgery, or to check the heart before or after a heart transplant.
